Cisco Unified Contact Center Express is an IP-based automated call distribution system that handles call routing, management, and administration features. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on an affected device. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

Technical Summary:
A vulnerability (CVE-2020-3280) has been discovered in Cisco Unified Contact Center Express that could allow for remote code execution. The vulnerability occurs due to insecure deserialization of user-supplied content by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a malicious serialized Java object to a specific listener on an affected system. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on an affected device. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

We recommend the following actions be taken:
- Install the updates provided by Cisco immediately after appropriate testing
- Remind users not to visit websites or follow links provided by unknown or untrusted sources.
- Inform and educate users regarding the threats posed by hypertext links contained in emails or attachments especially from un-trusted sources.
- Apply the Principle of Least Privilege to all systems and services.
